About Us
The Akwa Ibom Tech Week is an annual event aimed at fostering innovation, technology adoption, and digital transformation within the state. As part of the 2024 edition, we are organizing a Hackathon centered around the theme “Building a Resilient Innovation Ecosystem”. The Hackathon seeks to harness the ingenuity of tech enthusiasts, developers, and innovators to develop digital solutions to pressing challenges facing Akwa Ibom State across various sectors of the economy.
The Hackathon will provide a platform for participants to collaborate, brainstorm, and prototype digital solutions that address identified challenges in Akwa Ibom State. Participants will be grouped into teams and given a limited timeframe to develop their ideas into viable solutions. A panel of experts will evaluate the submissions, and the top three teams will be awarded prizes.

The focus is on reducing barriers and enhancing the travel experience, from airport check-ins to boarding and deplaning. Ideas could range from assistive technologies to improvements in airport infrastructure or specialized seating systems on aircraft.
This theme seeks innovative approaches to conducting a comprehensive and cost-effective population census in Akwa Ibom State. Participants are expected to explore digital tools, mobile technologies, or community-driven strategies to gather accurate demographic data efficiently. The solutions should ensure inclusivity, transparency, and accuracy while minimizing the costs typically associated with large-scale population surveys.
This theme focuses on advancing solutions that enable a smoother and more sustainable shift from traditional energy sources to renewable alternatives. Innovators are encouraged to develop technologies or strategies that promote the use of clean, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or bioenergy. Solutions might also focus on improving energy storage, efficiency, or distribution to help Akwa Ibom achieve its energy transition goals while fostering environmental sustainability.
This category is dedicated to fostering local hardware development and manufacturing within Akwa Ibom. Participants are challenged to create innovative hardware solutions—ranging from tech gadgets to industrial tools—that can be designed, produced, and commercialized locally. The goal is to drive self-reliance in technology manufacturing, stimulate job creation, and promote homegrown innovations that meet both local and global market demands.
This category focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the tourism sector in Akwa Ibom. Innovators are encouraged to design AI-driven platforms or applications that can help tourists discover, navigate, and experience the state’s attractions more efficiently. Solutions could include personalized travel itineraries, smart tour guides, or data-driven insights that improve tourism management and customer experiences.
This theme focuses on innovative solutions that convert agricultural waste into valuable products, such as biofuels, compost, or biodegradable materials. Participants are encouraged to explore methods that enhance sustainability, reduce waste, and create new economic opportunities within the agricultural sector.
