Job Overview
Ibom Innovation Network (IIN) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Law graduate currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to join our team as a Legal & Compliance Intern. This role is crucial for supporting the legal, regulatory, and documentation needs of our network as we accelerate the growth of the technology and innovation ecosystem in Akwa Ibom State.
The Intern will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of law and technology, directly contributing to the legal enablement of startups, developers, and ecosystem initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Intern will work closely with the leadership team to manage and support various legal and compliance functions, including but not limited to:
- Draft and update our internal and public-facing Privacy Policies and Data Agreements.
- Check our digital platforms and event registrations (like for Akwa Ibom Tech Week) to make sure we are correctly asking for and getting user consent.
- Monitor new laws and regulations and prepare short, easy-to-understand summaries and alerts for our leadership team.
- Help ensure all our events, internal operations, and partnerships follow all applicable laws.
- Assist in gathering and organizing documentation needed for any official regulatory filings or reports.
- Draft, review, and organize standard legal documents like Partnership Agreements, Contracts, and NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements).
- Help create and maintain template documents, such as our Website Terms of Service and Disclaimers.
- Take complex legal rules and turn them into clear, simple policies that our team can easily understand and follow.
- Be a key player in maintaining our legal filing system (both digital and physical), ensuring every executed contract is properly organized, indexed, and easy to find.
- Help manage and curate legal resource materials for the IIN community.
- Coordinate and schedule important meetings related to legal reviews, compliance checks, and partnership discussions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and successful completion of Law School (BL).
- Must have completed NYSC or still Serving
- Demonstrated strong interest in Technology Law, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, or Fintech regulation.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills. Must be highly detail-oriented and analytical.
- Proactive, self-motivated, eager to learn, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
